Prayer Archive Year B

Intercessions for 1st Sunday of Advent Year B

Everlasting God, as we come before you at the start of the Season of Advent we ask you to prepare us for the coming, of your son Jesus Christ and to hear us when we pray in faith for the needs of the Church and the world and to thank you for your goodness.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Mighty God, we pray for your church today, gathering worldwide in churches, chapels and cathedrals, to praise you and to hear your holy word. Give us a sense of expectation as we come and inspiration as we go.

We pray for your blessing on all those who lead, preach and teach and we pray especially for our own clergy here in the Costa Blanca as they seek to do your will and guide us through our spiritual and worldly journey through Advent, until the day when we celebrate together the birth of your Son on Christmas Day.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Creator God, drive away despair from our politics, revive our dreams of justice and truth, and restore our passion for what is good and right.  Establish your just and gentle rule throughout the world especially where there is conflict; where peace seems so far away and so many have lost everything, even the faint hope of a peaceful future. Govern the hearts and minds of all world leaders and those in authority that they may act justly, honestly and according to your will.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Father God we pray for those amongst our families, friends and neighbours who will only see in Advent a hectic and worrying run up to the excesses of a secular Christmas.  Help us as we try to set an example of a true spirit of preparation for that incredibly precious gift of the Christ-child.  May they see in our Services our Carols and Christingles the true meaning of Christmas and experience your love for them through the giving of your Son, Jesus Christ

(Short Silence)

Give courage to those who find it hard to follow you. Give us a fresh vision that leads to action and strengthen us to serve you in the places where we live.

Intercessions for Easter 4

Holy God, your Son remained with his disciples for 40 days after his resurrection, teaching them to love all people as friends and neighbours.

We too are his disciples and we offer our prayers on behalf of the church, the world in which we live and all those with whom we share it.

Loving God, the letter of John reminds us that “ If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”  Help us as a Chaplaincy to try to aspire to love with actions and truth and not merely with words or speech.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for all world leaders that, using Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd as the ultimate model of leadership, they would lead and care for their own flocks in such a way that peace might abound, righteousness flourish and injustice be eradicated.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, help us to reach out to strangers in our midst.  As we remember the way the early Church lived in one heart and mind and shared everything they had may we too in this Chaplaincy be always mindful of the needs of others less fortunate and always welcome the newcomer joyfully into our midst.

We pray the church’s ministry of healing here in the Costa Blanca, for the Healing Services held at The Franciscan Hospice and for the planning and implementation of similar services in the south of the Chaplaincy.  We pray too for those with an active ministry in our local hospitals and care homes especially at Benimeli and Alfaz del Pi.

Loving God just as you inspired St Luke, inspire all modern doctors with skill, professionalism and compassion for their patients. Enable them to cure the ills of both body and spirit that afflict so many in our day.  We pray now for all those whom we know and love and are in need of healing…….

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God many people die from a lack of proper medical facilities each day. Show your mercy to those who suffer so unjustly from these sins against your love, and gather them to the eternal kingdom of peace.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God  as we depart this service after hearing the Gospel and sharing in the Eucharist may we, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, know the fire that burns in every heart touched by the risen Christ in our midst

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Twentieth Sunday after Trinity

Let us come with openness to express our concerns for the Church and the world, to the God of compassion and gracious understanding.

Compassionate God, we pray for your church especially in our chaplaincy, the clergy and reader, the wardens and officials and all those who serve on church councils. Thank you too for those who provide music, hospitality and visits, flowers and keep our places of worship looking good; those who assist, serve read and pray.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, we are part of the tensions and injustices of the world: heal the resentment between people, and intervene in the world’s conflicts. Help us to walk humbly with you at our side when we come to the crossroads and have to choose which way to go lead us to the path of justice and righteousness whilst steering us away from the road that leads to selfishness and sin.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, forgive us when we waste our lives by being too busy to enjoy your creation. Teach us how to make spaces in the day to do the things we most enjoy. Just as you rested from your work, help us to practise the discipline of recreation.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, we pray for all those who are sick, that the Lord may guide them and strengthen them through their illness. We pray also for those who care for the sick, those engaged in the caring professions and for family members who look after loved ones and especially for children who care for parents

Merciful God, we pray for those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, for members of our families who have died and whose anniversary we recall. Help us to experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within us, and the fellowship of the church family around us until we are reunited once more in your heavenly kingdom.

Everlasting God, send us out into the coming week to live the Good News.  Give us the will each day to live in life eternal. Let our citizenship be in heaven with the whole company of the redeemed and with countless angels, praising, worshipping and adoring him who sits upon the throne for ever and ever.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Twenty-first Sunday after Trinity

Heavenly Father, thank you for the words of wisdom we hear week by from your son Jesus.  Help us all to learn from the lesson that he gave to his Disciples that greatness among his followers should be measured by their ability to live as servants and slaves, even if it means suffering oppression at the hands of those who wield power.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, we pray for those people in the world who are looked down up or treated as inferior.  We especially pray for women, young people and children: who are so often marginalised, mistreated, overlooked and ignored.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, we ask for the wisdom to discern your wishes and direction in our lives and ask for your help to guide how to deal with others in our daily lives; those we live and work with; those we meet in shops and supermarkets; those with whom we share our roads and those who serve us in cafes and restaurants.  Give us grace that, even in our smallest actions to put the needs of others before those of our own.

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, we pray for all those who are sick, asking that you might guide, comfort and strengthen them through their illness. We pray also for those who care for the sick, those engaged in the caring professions and for family members who look after loved ones and especially for children who care for parents

(Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God, give us ears to hear and minds to understand the message of immortality for the children of your kingdom so that we may look forward with patience and confidence to that time when we will join you in the peace of eternity. We especially pray for any we know who recently died and are on that journey to you.

Intercessions for Bible Sunday

Everlasting God, we thank you that your written Word continues to inspire us, showing us who you are, how you love us, how we should live and what we can be.

We thank you for all from our churches who contribute to worship by reading out your word. Give them and us discernment as we hear and inwardly digest the wisdom that we receive.

Thank you too for the way in which the Bible brings guidance, hope and health to people everywhere and we pray for the work of The Bible Society and its supporters that they too will be blessed through the varied work they do at home and globally to introduce the Bible to people’s minds and hearts.

                (Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God we thank you that Scripture shows us that you care for the entire world and all its People. We especially pray for all migrants and refugees around the world, that they would be able to unite themselves to the Holy Family who shared in their plight and would meet kindness and generosity in their search for a home. We give you thanks for the positive response from many countries and pray that this welcome be extended by many more.

                (Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God we pray our families and friends and our church community this Bible Sunday,

May we all be renewed in our love of the Scriptures that through the study of your Word we might encounter Christ in them and allow ourselves to be transformed by his words and actions.

                (Short Silence)

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, we pray for the sick, the lonely and the hurting in our community and for those who care for them.  Help them to draw strength from the love of our Lord Jesus shown through the words of scripture. As we think of the power of your Word to set captives free, we pray too for those who are chained by situations beyond their control or by sickness of body, mind or spirit.

Loving God we pray for all who have died; especially those who encouraged us in our faith by their Biblical understanding and teaching. As we pray for them, may they, in turn, continue to pray for us that we may stay true to our faith and by our example give similar encouragement to others.

Intercessions for  All Saints’ Sunday

God of All the Saints we ask that we might be a holy church, a praying church, a giving church, a serving church. May the saints in heaven be an example for us as today as we reassess our pledges and refocus our giving, mindful of our Chaplaincy’s Mission here in the Costa Blanca and rejoicing in the positive steps being taken to work within the budget set by the Chaplaincy Council

God of Peace we thank you for your world and remember that you entrusted it to our care as stewards.  Give us wisdom to manage our money and personal finances well and to practice heartfelt generosity. As we live each day, help us to treat our world fairly whilst accepting its goodness gratefully. Help us to remember that you are the giver of all we have and to put aside pride of ownership

                (Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy- Hear our prayer

God of Compassion, bring healing and peace to the nations in conflict and where there is political instability. Protect those who are poor and hungry and give them hope. Move those with plenty to share with those who have little and help all people to love their neighbour as themselves.

                (Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Justice, keep us from being preoccupied with money and worldly goods and with trying to increase them at the expense of justice. Let us not be so concerned with our own problems that we become lacking in concern for the problems of others. Help us to demonstrate our love for you in our daily lives and in the wider society of the Costa Blanca. Make us quick to forgive and slow to condemn and help us to strive for peace in our families, in our country and in the world.

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Communities, we thank you for those who helped us on our journey of faith and encouraged us to keep going when we felt like giving up; for all those who taught us the faith; for those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives, striving for a better world following the example of your only son, Jesus Christ.  We pray for our own community here and for our church, its congregation, wardens and for all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, to make our Church the thriving congregation it is today.               (Short Silence)

Intercessions for  Remembrance Sunday

Almighty Father, we thank you for bringing us together on this Remembrance Sunday which falls on the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War One,  recalling with tenderness and respect those who lost their lives from this community and the many thousands further afield in the other wars of the last century.

We pray for all those still caught up in conflicts across the world and acknowledge what may be our own confusion about war and the use of weapons. Father, help us to meet with you in these moments of worship and make us ever mindful of your goodness towards us and strengthen us to be aware of the needs of others. As we pray for peace, give us peace in our hearts.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those men and women who have died in active service: in Iraq, in Afghanistan and elsewhere. As we honour their courage and cherish their memory, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and forever.

(Short Silence)

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Mighty God, have mercy on those who mourn who feel numb and crushed and are filled with the pain of grief, whose strength has given up.  You know all our sighing and longings: be near to us and teach us to fix our hope on you.

We pray too for those we know who are ill, in hospital or in care homes and we remember to give thanks for those who are on the road to recovery.

Father God, you know our hearts and share our sorrows. We are hurt by our parting from those whom we loved: when we are angry at the loss we have sustained, when we long for words of comfort, yet find them hard to hear, turn our grief to truer living, our affliction to firmer hope in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord God, do not abandon us in our desolation. Keep us safe in the midst of trouble, and complete your purpose for us through your steadfast love and faithfulness.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life: hear our prayers and thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; fulfil in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

(© Archbishops’ Council 2016 and The Rev’d Canon  Annette Reed)

These Prayers are taken from Churches Together Remembrance Sunday 2005

Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace: for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God;

May God give peace: God give peace

For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss;

May God give peace: God give peace

For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return;

May God give peace: God give peace

For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity;

May God give peace: God give peace

For peace-makers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free;

May God give peace: God give peace

For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace.

May God give peace: God give peace

O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever. Amen.
