An important message from Bishop David

Some people have asked about how to show solidarity to our folk in Ukraine, besides prayer of course.  Archdeacon Leslie Nathaniel has been in conversation with the Christ Church key laity about this, and there will likely be some humanitarian needs that they may be called upon to address. So, those who are wanting to make donations are being told:

Christ Church Kyiv has funds in London looked after by our Diocese. The chaplaincy will be hugely grateful for donations made to the Diocese and will work with the Diocese so these can support the needs of that church and its community at this time.

Could you share this message with our chaplaincies right away, in case there is any desire in our Sunday services to offer such support?

Kind thanks

+David

Preparing for Lent

This Sunday is the final Sunday before Lent. Our churches are all operating services at their normal times, with each celebrating the Eucharist.
We mark Ash Wednesday with the traditional Eucharist of the Ashes at our normal time in Javea. In addition Fr Rodney and Fr Robin will broadcast a service online at 10.00 Spanish time (9am UK time). See below for details of how to join them. There will also be the service at the men’s refuge (hospice) at Palma de Gandia that Fr Rodney asked us to announce earlier in the week. In addition, our weekly service in Alfaz on Thursday will also be a Eucharist of the Ashes.

We look forward to welcoming you. Full details of these weekly communion services can be found at this page – https://costablanca-anglicanchaplaincy.org/churches-and-services-3/.

Fr. Rodney and Fr. Robin will be broadcasting their now regular communion service on Fr. Rodney’s Facebook page. It will be “streamed” live on Saturday at 7pm Spanish time (6pm GMT) and then available all day on Sunday, to join at your leisure. As always both the live broadcast and the recording, as well as the soecial Ash Wednesday Eucharist will be available on the following page – https://www.facebook.com/rodney.middleton.940. If you are not ready or not able to join us in one of our churches this is a wonderful way to share our worship.

And remember to tune in to Fr. Marcus for his live Sunday radio programme, between 6pm and 8pm, Spanish time, on Pure Gold FM. You can listen on the radio on 94.1 FM. Or on your computer, tablet or phone join through the listen live button on https://puregold.fm/.

La Fustera – Mountains in My Life

 Mountains in My Life

By

International Mountaineer, Soldier and Author.

The story of the impossible climb on a remote Himalayan mountain API 23, 399 feet.

Tucked away in the North West corner of Nepal, close to the Tibet/Chinese border, this rarely visited mountain rises dramatically above the surrounding valleys. It offers mountaineers many difficulties as it is remote, with many impressive facets, none more so than the steep, unclimbed south face. This south face was the target for the British Army Mountaineering Association expedition, led by Major Sir Crispin Agnew of Lochnaw, of which I was lucky enough to be one of the team members. This is my story of that expedition.

19th February 2022 at La Fustera Church, Avinguda Fustera 33-39, 03720, Benissa at 6pm. Complimentary drink and nibbles on arrival plus honesty bar. Entrance 10 euros all proceeds go to the Costa Blanca Chaplaincy.

Farewell to Frank and Lin Bentley

Members of congregations across the Chaplaincy joined the folk at Calpe today, to say a heartfelt “thank you” and “farewell” to 2 stalwarts of the Chaplaincy.

Over around 20 years on the Costa Blanca, Frank and Lin Bentley have served as Chaplaincy auditor, counsellor, local warden, and local treasurer. They held these posts while worshipping at La Fustera and latterly at Calpe. La Fustera’s loss was Calpe’s sincere gain, at a time when the Calpe congregation was ripe for regeneration, and regenerate it certainly has.

As Frank has reported to the local congregation, under their “watch” last year Calpe contributed over €20,000 to Chaplaincy funds (plus the standing order payments made by Calpe congregation members, which do not get included in the local figures).

They have led and organised a host of successful fundraising efforts over the years, and Lin is know as an outstanding and generous baker.

They will be sadly missed, but they leave behind a strong and well prepared team to keep things running and growing.

With enormous thanks (and a few tears) we wish them great happiness in the next phase of their lives, back in Kent.

Chaplaincy crooner, Dave Peachy sings a specially composed tribute to Lin and Frank
Fr Marcus gives Frank and Lin a specially written canon’s blessing (and huge thanks)
