A Requiem for Martin Bentley.

At the same time as the funeral for our dear friend and recent warden of this Chaplaincy, the clergy will conduct a requiem mass at the Ermita in Javea (our regular church on the Jesus Pobre Road).
This will be at 15.30, on Friday October 7th.
We are sure that many of Martin’s friends in the Chaplaincy will wish to join us.

CALPE – Civic Requiem for her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The Alcadesa (Mayor) of Calpe and the Parish Priest, Don Juan Carlos, have proposed a shared Service to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This will take place as part of the regular Roman Catholic Mass at La Merced Church (our Calpe location) next Sunday, September 18th, at 12 noon.

We are all invited to attend, and we hope there will be a good representation from our Anglican community.

Fr Rodney will celebrate our regular Eucharist at 10.30am, and will then attend the Requiem at 12 noon. There will be time for refreshments up at the campsite either between these Services or afterwards, so please join us if you are able.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

A prayer from Bishop David –

O God grant thy servant Queen Elizabeth the sure benefits of thy Son’s saving passion & glorious resurrection; that in the last day when all things are gathered up in Christ she may enjoy the fullness of thy promises.

Services for this week

Our clergy will be presiding at services at the regular times in all our churches on Sunday. And our midweek services in Jávea (on Wednesdays) and in Alfaz del Pi (on Thursdays) continue as normal. Full details of these weekly communion services can be found at this page – https://costablanca-anglicanchaplaincy.org/churches-and-services-3/.

Fr. Rodney and Fr. Robin will be broadcasting their regular communion service on Fr. Rodney’s Facebook page. It will be “streamed” live on Saturday at 7pm Spanish time (6pm BST) and then available all day on Sunday, to join at your leisure. As always both the live broadcast and the recording will be available on the following page – https://www.facebook.com/rodney.middleton.940. This is another option to share our worship.

Martin Bentley – Funeral arrangements

As you will know from the post on Tuesday, Martin passed away peacefully that morning, following a battle with poor health.

He and Carole have been central to Chaplaincy life for over 15 years, and worshipped here on holidays for some time before that. Martin was Chaplaincy Warden until this year, and local warden for several years previously. He managed Chaplaincy properties and was a wise counsel to many in the life of the church and in their personal lives.

He was a “larger than life” personality who gave so much, through his love of music, his love of good food, his energy in fundraising, his motivation of others and his solid faith.

Martin’s funeral will be held at 2.30pm on Friday 7th October, in Wickham Bishops church, near Maldon in Essex. This is very appropriate, as Martin was Churchwarden there for several years, before moving to Moraira.

There will be a private family cremation beforehand.

Whether you attend the funeral or not, do please bear him and Carole in your prayers.

And remember him with joy, for that is what Martin brought to so many.

There will be a live stream broadcast of part of the day. Please contact us for details if you wish to join.
