Prayer Archive Year B

Intercessions for 1st Sunday of Advent Year B – 30th November 2014

Heavenly Father as we come before you at the start of the Season of Advent we ask you to prepare us for the coming, of your son Jesus Christ and to hear us when we pray in faith for the needs of the Church and the world and to thank you for your goodness.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

We pray for your church today, gathering worldwide in churches, chapels and cathedrals, to praise you and to hear your holy word. Give us a sense of expectation as we come and inspiration as we go.

We pray for your blessing on all those who lead, preach and teach and we pray especially for our own clergy here in the Costa Blanca as they seek to do your will and guide us through our spiritual and worldly journey through Advent, until the day when we celebrate together the birth of your Son on Christmas Day.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Lord God, drive away despair from our politics, revive our dreams of justice and truth, and restore our passion for what is good and right.  Establish your just and gentle rule throughout the world especially where there is conflict; where peace seems so far away and so many have lost everything, even the faint hope of a peaceful future.

Govern the hearts and minds of all world leaders and those in authority that they may act justly, honestly and according to your will.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Father God we pray for those amongst our families, friends and neighbours who will only see in Advent a hectic and worrying run up to the excesses of a secular Christmas.  Help us as we try to set an example of a true spirit of preparation for that incredibly precious gift of the Christ-child.  May they see in our Services our Carols and Christingles the true meaning of Christmas and experience your love for them through the giving of your Son, Jesus Christ

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Merciful God we pray for those for whom this day will be long and painful, for those in hospital or ill at home, those struggling with despair or depression and for all who care for them.  Comfort and heal all who suffer, give them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Loving God we pray for those who have recently died and for those for whom this day will be their last.  Be near to all who mourn and comfort them with the knowledge that in the coming of your son Jesus the gates of heaven will be opened wide for all who accept him as Lord and Saviour.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer

Advent Lord, as we leave this place today draw near to us, strengthen our faith, deepen our love for you and for our neighbours and open our eyes to the wonder of your creation, so that when our Saviour comes he may find our hearts ready to receive him.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your son our Saviour Jesus Christ Amen

Intercessions for 2nd Sunday of Advent Year B – 7th December 2014

Heavenly Father as we journey through this season of Advent, seeking to make our paths straight for His coming, we now offer our prayers and petitions through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Lord God, your servant John the Baptist called people to change the way they lived and to prepare themselves for the coming of your son. Raise up we pray, prophetic voices in our own time. Enable us to discern the truth which draws us closer to you. Give us courage to reject the voice of the evil one tempting us to fulfil our selfish desires. We pray for all those who teach, preach and minister to the congregations here in the Costa Blanca Chaplaincy. May they be as fearless in proclaiming the truth as your servant John and may we be ready to adapt and change in response to their leadership.

We especially pray at this time for all faced with the task of selecting a new House for Duty Priest to join our Chaplaincy in the New Year

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Father God, we pray for our world and the problems faced by so many of your children. We pray for all who live under the threat of war and terrorism and the poverty which comes in its wake. We pray for those who have little to eat, meagre dwellings and few material possessions when we who live in the richer world have so much..  Help us to care and to share and to give generously whenever we can in the same way that you gave us your son Jesus Christ at the first Christmas.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Lord Jesus you lived an ordinary family life in Nazareth and so you understand the difficulties faced in family life. We pray for all of those involved in providing support for troubled families and strengthening our community life.  As we draw closer to Christmas we pray for those families who will feel their problems increased by the need to provide what they cannot truly afford.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Merciful Lord, may your blessing be upon all those who are sick, in pain, anxious or troubled. We ask you to be close to those passing through dark places, to those undergoing treatments at home or in hospital and to give thanks for all in the Health Services who are treating them.    We especially pray for those within our Chaplaincy.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Give rest, dear Lord, to those who have gone from our lives to be with you. May they now live the life eternal and rest in everlasting in your presence.  Strengthen the bereaved with the knowledge of your loving presence in this their time of greatest need.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Lord God, we ask you to help us make time for true preparations this Advent.  In the midst of the rush of life, help us to find inner quietness and an awareness of your presence. Let this Christmas be a time when we concern ourselves not so much with material things but focus more on the spiritual gifts you give so unselfishly

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for 3rd Sunday of Advent Year B – 14th December 2014

Mindful of the words of the prophet Isaiah, we gather our thoughts and prayers with hope and humbly call on God to help us in our needs.

Loving Father as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of Christ our Saviour we ask that you will answer our prayers and make us a holy people, fit to greet him with eager hearts. May our Church leaders be blessed with wisdom and holiness to guide us through this season of Advent, to a peaceful and holy Christmas.  We raise before you our Church here in the Costa Blanca, and ask that with eager longing for the return of Christ, our Advent celebrations may help all who join with us to prepare a place in their hearts and homes for you and your son Jesus Christ our Lord

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Lord God help the leaders of nations to seek that justice and peace which come from the Word of God, may there be good news for the poor and the broken hearted; release for those illegally or wrongly imprisoned and an end to the conflicts throughout the world which lead to so much grief and mourning.  We pray too for all those who strive to rebuild in places which have been ravaged by war or natural disaster

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Lord Jesus you lived an ordinary life in Nazareth, with human parents, brothers and sisters. You understand the difficulties faced in families. We pray for all of those involved in providing support for troubled families and strengthening our community life.  We especially pray for our family members who have not yet heard of the coming of Christ and that this Christmas they may hear and believe the Good News and receive the gift of the Christ Child.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Merciful God, may your blessing be upon all those who are in pain or sickness, those who are anxious or troubled. We know that you are always present with us, even when sometimes you seem far away. Help us to feel your presence when we pass through dark places, and sustain us and all who suffer through our pains and sorrows.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

Gracious God may those who have died may be granted the peace of your heavenly kingdom

Give rest to the souls of those who have gone from our lives to meet with you. May they now, released from pain or sorrow, find life eternal at rest in your presence.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

As we continue this Advent journey, teach us to turn to you in times of joy and pleasure as well as we do when faced with fear and sorrow.  Help us to put our differences behind us and to unite behind the great commission of Jesus to make disciples of all nations and all people.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for 4th Sunday of Advent Year B – 21st December 2014

Lord God, we join our prayers to those of Mary, your faithful servant and mother of our lord, to proclaim your greatness, and sing in gratitude for all your wonderful gifts bestowed on us, your lowly servants.

Lord, we pray, look down with love upon our Church here in the Costa Blanca Chaplaincy as day by day we struggle to be a body worthy of Jesus’ name. Be with us as we focus on the coming of your kingdom and the gift of your son this Christmas

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mary prayed that the mighty be cast down from their thrones, we pray that those in power would use that power wisely and compassionately so that the lowly would be lifted up, the hungry fed and greater equality be established between rich and poor.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mary’s prayer was given to God whilst on a visit to her cousin Elizabeth.  At this time of Advent and Christmas we pray for all who are travelling to visit relatives and friends.  We give thanks for the hospitality shown by our friends and families and for our opportunity to share with them and ask that we are always aware of your presence with us in all of our parties and festivities.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mary recognised your promise of mercy; Lord we ask you to show your mercy on all who are sick, fearful or in mourning and especially we pray for those members of our church, families and friends who we now name before you.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Heavenly Father, you sent to earth the gift of your son Jesus Christ that in your power and love we might also have the gift of eternal life; bless those whom we love that have departed this life with the gifts of your all-encompassing love and life eternal.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Heavenly Father, who chose the Blessed Virgin Mary to be the mother of the promised saviour: fill us your servants with your grace, that in all things we may embrace your holy will and with her rejoice in your salvation; send us out to finish our Advent journey filled with love and joy and peace ready to receive that promise afresh into our lives.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

O God, who graciously bestowed on your Bishop Saint David of Wales the virtue of wisdom and the gift of eloquence, and made him an example of prayer and pastoral zeal; grant that, through his intercession, your Church may ever prosper and render you joyful praise. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Father God as you revealed yourself to Abraham in ancient days, reveal yourself to in this present age.  Make us into a faithful people ready to believe your promises and follow you wherever you will lead us.

Holy God, during this period of Lent, give us a new awareness of your presence in our Church here in the Costa Blanca and teach us the humility to accept that all our gifts come from you to be used in the service of your people and in the spreading of the Gospel.  Live in us through all of our small acts of sacrifice and help us be cheerful in our fasting and giving as or Lord Jesus Christ commanded.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Creator God your son walked upon earth and taught us to seek your hand in the beauty and wonders of earth and sea and the sky. We so often see too much of the evidence of poor stewardship in our surroundings and it is easy to forget that the world belongs to you. Help us to recognise your presence in our modern world, and help us to use more wisely the resources of the earth.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Loving God we give you thanks for our Local and Church community here in Spain: for our neighbours, for our friends and for the people around us with whom we work and share our daily lives. We pray for those who are old and lonely, those isolated because of ill-health, and those who find it difficult to be accepted. Show us all what we can do to help those around us and teach us to be good neighbours and true friends.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Heavenly Father we pray for the sick and the suffering.  For those undergoing treatments and surgery; for those convalescing and those who are recovered.  We pray that through their suffering they may all experience the light of the Gospel.  We pray too all who administer to the sick and infirm; for those working in our local health centres and hospitals; for those working in care homes and those who daily give help at home; for all of our local charities and Help organisations.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Almighty God be near to all those who are grieving today over the loss of a loved one. We raise before you those who have died in the faith of Christ and for those whose belief is known only to you.  Lord, we thank you for those who have travelled before us on the way of the cross and are now at peace in your eternal presence.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Faithful God as we go out into the world today help us to remember that you son was tempted by the Devil but chose faithfulness before popularity, service before fame and sacrifice before power. Give us the strength to reject temptation through our Lenten journey and beyond it throughout the rest of our lives.

Merciful Father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Intercessions for the Third Sunday of Lent March 8th 2015

God our Father, be with us in this time of prayer, and help us to feel your presence.  Mindful of the Commandments that you gave to Moses we pray that you would be worshiped above all else in our land and that we can at all times be given the strength to reject the idolatry of our secular world.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Faithful God we pray for the church throughout the world, and especially for our Chaplaincy here in the Costa Blanca.  We pray for Father Peter as he approaches his retirement: for Father Ray who will join us as Peter’s replacement: for Father Marcus as he prepares to take over as Senior Chaplain.  We give thanks too for all of the other Clergy who live amongst us or regularly visit and bring a refreshing diversity to our worship.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Mighty God we pray for the governments of the world and all world leaders, that they may always seek for peaceful solutions in their dealings with other nations and rule their own countries with compassion and justice. We pray for the situation in The Middle East and for those fighting the ISIS threat and other places in the world where tensions are high.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for our families, friends and neighbours and for the people with whom we work or share our daily lives. We pray for those who are lonely, those isolated because of age or ill-health, and those who find it difficult to make friends or be accepted.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, we pray for all who are in pain or are suffering at this time. We remember especially those who are facing long or incurable illnesses. In a moment of quietness we pray for them, and any we know who are in any kind of need at this time.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful God, we pray for those we love but see no longer. Grant them your peace, let light perpetual shine upon them, May they rest in peace and rise in glory. We remember before God those who have recently died especially………..

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Faithful God, as we go out from our worship into the Marketplace which is our world help us to resist the temptations that will assail us and to always remember that our bodies are a temple of your Holy Spirit.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Intercessions for Mothering Sunday March 15th 2015

Father God, as your son Jesus Christ showed his love on the cross, in his compassion for his mother and his sacrifice for us all, may we know what it is to love and be loved, in words and in actions.

Heavenly Father we pray today for our Mother Church and our Chaplaincy here in the Costa Blanca.  We give you thanks for our Church family and pray that all may find in her their true home; that the lonely, the marginalized, the rejected may be welcomed and loved in the name of Jesus.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, as we see the brokenness of our world we pray for healing among the nations; for food where there is hunger; for freedom where there is oppression; for joy where there is pain; that your love may bring peace to all your children.

We especially pray for all mothers who have to raise their children in places where there is war, famine, terrorism and great uncertainty. For mothers who have had to flee conflict to a different country or are far from their homes and their relatives.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, you have given us the right to be called children of God. Help us to show your love in our homes that they may be places of love, security and truth.  Your Son, was born into the family of Mary and Joseph; bless all parents and all who care for children; strengthen those families living under stress and may your love be known where no human love is found.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Heavenly Father we remember that as we celebrate Mothering Sunday today there are those who do not share our happiness, those who are sick, those who are sad, those who lonely, those who separated from their families and those who live in families where there is little joy.  We raise before you now those who need healing in their lives and give you thanks where healing has taken place.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God you commanded us to honour our parents. Have mercy on the souls of our mothers and fathers who have departed this life and hear us as we now remember too, the recently departed.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, as we go out into the coming week may we reflect your love for us love in our families, our church and our community; so that the world can see that we are followers of your son Jesus Christ and draw others into his loving care.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mighty God we pray for peace in our world. May all lands that suffer violence and injustice find peace and reconciliation. We pray for the peoples of the world and all who offer their services in the leadership of the affairs of the world that they may uphold what is right and good. We pray particularly at this time for peace in all places where there is violence, war and terrorism.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God we thank you Lord for all those who help our community to run smoothly because of their jobs, voluntary work or neighbourliness. Help us to be supportive and encouraging and to step in to situations where we can serve. Bless our neighbours and strengthen those who are working in your name in order to bring healing and comfort to those in need.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God your Son Jesus Christ healed the lame with a touch and raised the dead with a word – hear our prayers today for those who are laid low by sorrow and illness, or by fear and weakness; breathe new life into them as we name them before you now.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

We thank you, loving God, that our movement towards death and decay is not the final sentence in our life story.   We thank you that by your faithfulness we are born to a new and living hope in a future where love will never be terminated and life will never end.   May we always trust in you as we pray for the departed.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Living God, long ago, faithful women proclaimed the good news of Jesus’ resurrection, and the world was changed forever.  Help us to keep faith with them, that our witness may be as bold, our love as deep, and joy and amazement as real as was theirs when he appeared to them.

Gracious God following the APCM held in Calp this past week we pray for Father Marcus in his new role as Senior Chaplain and for his vision for the Chaplaincy.  Help us all to play an active part in that vision ever focusing on Christ’s call to all of us to be witnesses and to make disciples of all mankind.  We pray too for Father Ray at the start of his ministry with us and continue to pray for Father Peter in his retirement.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, you gave us a beautiful world to live in and to care for.  We know that in many areas our Stewardship has been a failure yet, through the victory of Jesus Christ, we know also that you can restore all things in glory; and so we pray for a change of heart and attitude, an awakening to a better way of living, and the courage to reject wrong principles..

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Intercessions for Easter 4 – April 26th 2015

Holy God, your Son remained with his disciples  for 40 days after his resurrection, teaching them to love all people as friends and neighbours.

We too are his disciples  and we offer our prayers on behalf of the church, the world in which we live and all those with whom we share it.

Loving God, the letter of John reminds us that “ If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”  Help us as a Chaplaincy to try to aspire to love with actions and truth and not merely with words or speech.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for all world leaders that, using Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd as the ultimate model of leadership, they would lead and care for their own flocks in such a way that peace might abound, righteousness flourish and injustice be eradicated.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, help us to reach out to strangers in our midst.  As we remember the way the early Church lived in one heart and mind and shared everything they had may we too in this Chaplaincy  be always mindful of the needs of others less fortunate and always welcome the newcomer joyfully into our midst.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for those who do not know your peace and for those who are struggling with their lives.  We ask for your healing on those who are sick, your strength for those who are tired and your love for those who live with despair and fear

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, we pray for those who now walk in the valley of the shadow of death. We know from the Psalm that you are with them and have gone before them to prepare them a table overflowing with all good things.  Guide those who are left behind in the paths of righteousness and uphold them in their sorrow with the assurance of your goodness and love.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Everlasting God  we ask that you would bless us here at [Chaplaincy church name] with vision for the future and reverence for the past.  Guide us each day as we minister to one another and to the world.  Help us each day to bear witness to your name and to do your bidding, always mindful of your  amazing love for us.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God we pray for Your world and we long for the time when all the families of the nations will bow down before you and the poor will eat and be satisfied.  We pray for world leaders who bear the heavy responsibility of providing for their populations, give them wisdom to know what is right and the courage to make right decisions.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Almighty God we ask you to guide your people and to inspire us with the desire to put aside our differences as we seek to serve you. Give us through your grace opportunities to invite them into our fellowship so that they may taste and see that the Lord is good.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer

Creator God, we know that we are part of the problems that the world faces, and we know that wherever there is resentment between people there will be tension.  We pray that those who lead us and the other nations of the world will always try to solve issues in a peaceful way, and intervene in the world’s conflicts with forethought and commonsense. We pray for the Royal Families of the UK and Spain and commend them to your love .

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer

Father God in today’s Gospel your son Jesus gives us a hard teaching regarding families and so we ask you to help us to be gentle, with our families and friends who are not also part of our Christian family . Give us, we pray, the calm that makes for consideration and the respect for others that makes us courteous. Take from us hard words and the cynical look. Let us be to others as we would wish them to be to us.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer

Gracious God, we pray for all those who are afflicted by physical, emotional or mental illness.  Comfort all who care for the mentally ill. Be with them, we pray,  through the lonely watches of the night and the narrow tunnel of their pain and grief. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on you, and give them the courage to face the trials and temptations that may come. Especially we pray for…………………

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer

Merciful God, your love reaches beyond the grave and so we bring before you those whose earthly life is now at an end. Receive their souls into your kingdom, we pray, that redeemed by grace they may be forgiven for their sins, rest in peace and rise in glory.

Lord in your Mercy: Hear our prayer

And so Heavenly Father wherever nature’s beauty or the daily miracles around help us to see your hand at work we thank you for the grace to live and enjoy it to the full.

Merciful Father: Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Intercessions for Second Sunday after Trinity Year B– 14 June 2015

Father God, we approach your throne of grace with our concerns, our burdens and our thanksgiving for all your people throughout the world.  Help us to put our trust in you and in our Saviour Jesus Christ who taught us that you love us as a parent and want only what is right for us.

May the seeds that are being planted in our Chaplaincy grow into branches that reach out into every part of the Costa Blanca and help us as we try and focus on the big issues that sometimes threaten to overwhelm us.

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

We pray for Christian Church throughout the world and especially for churches in places where religious faith is suppressed or where Christianity is an unwelcome minority.

We pray for our Chaplains both full time and part-time and for all who serve on Chaplaincy Council and Local Church Councils and we pray for guidance and wisdom in all the work that they do which enables the Chaplaincy to function day by day.

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

Creator God we pray for our world which seems to be forever caught up in violence and conflict. Through the media we are witnesses to terrorist violence in so many parts the world. As we continue to pray for peace and goodwill towards all people we also pray for the innocent victims and their families caught up in conflicts which are not of their making.

We pray for our world leaders and for the Royal Families of Great Britain and Spain.  We also pray for our community leaders and those in public office dealing with difficult situations and especially for those dealing with the serious drought which is affecting our part of Spain.  Help us to always be aware of the part that we can play by using scarce resources carefully and unselfishly.

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

Gracious God we pray for our children and young people as they near end of another academic year. Be with those who are beginning important examinations at school and university and those starting new lives in the world of work. Help us, through our Christian life to create a society where both young and old, gifted and less able feel valued and proud to be a part of society.

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

Loving God we think now of those in need in our own community and further afield; the elderly, the housebound and those in care homes, hospital and hospice. We also remember the victims of violence, abuse or cruelty.  We give thanks for all those who care for the sick within the family, and for all our medical and voluntary services.

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

We pray for those who face the pain of grief at the loss of a loved one. Help us to support all those who mourn, both with our prayers and with practical help both this day and in the days and weeks to come. We remember before God those who have died and ask that those bereaved by their passing are aware of the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings so much hope.

Today we remember: –

Lord in Your mercy. – ‘Hear our prayer’

Lord we ask you to lead us into the coming week, Help us to believe that you are close by us, keep us from making mistakes and help us never to disappoint you. When we face hard decisions or difficult work, when we enjoy ourselves and have fun with others may we know that you share these times with us.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Third Sunday after Trinity Year B– 21 June 2015

Mighty God, when the waves of life threaten to overwhelm us forgive us if we blame you or others for our troubles. Teach us to find you in the storms of life and give us the faith those early disciples lacked to always believe that you will bring calm and peace.

Everlasting God we pray for your church here in the Chaplaincy of the Holy Spirit, Costa Blanca, for our Chaplains and PTO’s and for their families.  We ask for your blessing on our work as we seek to create a church community that welcomes visitors and strangers, provides a refuge for those who feel threatened or alone, a refuge from life’s troubled waters.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, as we see the brokenness of our world we pray for healing among the nations; for food where there is hunger; for freedom where there is oppression; for joy where there is pain; that your love may bring peace to all your children.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God, we thank you for the joy of human love, and for all those among whom we live and work. We especially pray for those among our friends and families who do not know you, or whose faith has been shaken. Help them to see that “We have an Anchor that keeps the soul, steadfast and sure while the billows roll, fastened to the Rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!”

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God when our lives feel chaotic and desolate because of illness or sorrow, help us to hear your holy word for by that word Jesus calmed the storm and by it he healed and made people whole. We pray for those who have requested our prayers; help them to triumph over their Goliaths and help them put their trust in You and in the knowledge and skills of the doctors and nurses who are treating them.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for those saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, for members of our families who have died and whose anniversary we recall.  Help us to experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within us, and the fellowship of the church family around us until we are reunited once more in your heavenly kingdom.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, help us to know that the one who calmed the waves on the Sea of Galilee is present with us day by day and that he cares for us and can calm the waves of our lives. Help us to trust more fully and more deeply in you in all that we are involved with in the days to come.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Lord God, we give you thanks for our church here …………. and for our Chaplaincy representing the Church of England here in the Costa Blanca. We pray for all who minister and preach and who enlarge and enrich our understanding of God and help us to respond to his love.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God, we pray for Christians working in places of power and influence who make decisions which affect the lives of so many people. We ask you to bless those who work in politics, in the media, in advertising and in the financial markets. May they all know what to say and how to act for the benefit of all people and at all times to be true and faithful to you.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God we pray for those whom we love, family and friends who are the special people in our lives wherever they may be. We pray for their hopes, their fears, their problems and their needs but most of all we thank you for each one of them and for what they give and mean to us.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God, todays gospel showed the tremendous faith of a sick woman.  Help us to learn from this “that we should always pray and not give up” and that if we “ask it will be given to us.” We raise before you now all those who we know who need to touch the hem of Jesus garments and receive health and healing in their lives.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God, into your caring hands we commit those who have died and we pray for all those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. This morning we pray for and remember…………………

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, we have laid before you our concerns and now we offer you our thanks and praise for all the blessings and gifts you lavish on us. In the weeks ahead help us to keep the faith as deeply and passionately as Jairus and the woman at the lake.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Fifth Sunday after Trinity Year B– 5 July 2015

We lift our prayers to you, O Lord, for all people everywhere, those close to us and those far away.

We pray for those who minister and preach that they may never find themselves rejected out of hand as our Saviour Jesus Christ was in his home town synagogue.

We pray for the Worldwide Anglican Church and for the Church of England here in The Costa Blanca asking for your help to grow in faith.  Help us also to respect the beliefs of others even if we do not share them, to celebrate what we have in common and accept our differences. Guide us in our ministries as we live each day determined to spread the Good News of your son Jesus Christ.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God look with compassion on the whole human family; take away arrogance and hatred that infects the hearts of those who pursue violence and terrorism; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love and peace.

We pray today for peacemakers throughout the world, may they bring hope out of despair, peace out of conflict and prosperity out of poverty.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God we pray for our families and friends and especially for young people that they may grow up knowing love and hope, valuing life and respecting others.  We pray for those who are about to leave school and move on to the next stage in their lives, and for those for whom what happens next depends on exam performance.  We pray for those joining us here in the Costa Blanca on holiday over the coming weeks praying that may travel safely and return refreshed.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God we pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick especially for those who like St Paul have been given “a thorn in the flesh”.

Almighty God as we move into another week, deliver our eyes from tears and our feet from stumbling and walk with us on our journey of faith as we carry the cross of Christ into the world.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity Year B – 20 September 2015

Heavenly Father hear our prayers and listen to the words of our mouths as we lay before your throne our hopes and fears, our joys and concerns and all the things for which we give thanks.

We pray for the Church, both here in The Anglican Chaplaincy of the Costa Blanca and throughout the world, and all who call themselves Christians, that they may go forward in unity and strength. Help us to respect the beliefs of others even if we do not share them, to celebrate what we have in common and to accept our differences. Guide us all in our ministries as we live each day.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God , drive away despair from our politics, revive our dreams of justice and truth, and restore our passion for what is good and right.  Establish your just and gentle rule throughout the world especially where there is conflict; where peace seems so far away and so many have lost everything, even the faint hope of a peaceful future.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, help us always to remember that in life we are “Third” and that you and our neighbour come first.  Help us always to practice unselfishness as we try to live out lives where we genuinely try to be the servant of all as our Lord commanded.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God Lord, we pray for all those who are afflicted by physical, emotional or mental illness. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on you, and give them the courage to face the trials and temptations that may come. Especially we pray for………………

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving Father, we pray for those who have died alone, unnoticed and unloved. We pray for those who have committed suicide or died in accidents of their own making.  We commend all the departed to your merciful love.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God as we leave this place today and return to our homes and loved ones draw near to us, strengthen our faith, deepen our love for you and for our neighbours and open our eyes to the wonder of your creation.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity Year B – 27 September 2015

Holy God, your law is perfect and your statutes are trustworthy and so we pray to you knowing that you will hear our prayers and answer them in your way.

We pray for all people who seek to follow your way in their lives. Let your church speak your word of truth with confidence and in unity so that those who are searching and listening will be able to see and hear clearly your message of love and peace.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, we recognise our part in the tensions and injustices of the world: heal the resentment between people, and intervene in the world’s conflicts. Help us to walk humbly with you at our side when we come to the crossroads and have to choose which way to go lead us to the path of justice and righteousness whilst steering us away from the road that leads to selfishness and sin.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the love we share with our families and our friends. We recognise that they may have faults and they love us in spite of ours.  Help us to be flexible and adaptable in all of our relationships and also capable of accepting constructive criticism.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mighty God we pray for those who you have called to the study and practice of medicine, healing and to the prevention of disease and pain. Strengthen them as they follow Jesus’ example, that through their ministries the health of the community may be promoted and your creation glorified. We now name before you those who we know and love who need healing in their lives.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God, you sent to earth your son Jesus Christ so that in your power and love we might also have the gift of eternal life; bless those whom we love that have departed this life with the gifts of your all-encompassing love and life eternal.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Lord we ask you to lead us into the coming week, Help us to believe that you are close by us, keep us from making mistakes and help us never to disappoint you. When we face hard decisions or difficult work, when we enjoy ourselves and have fun with others may we know that you share these times with us.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity Year B – 4 October  2015 – Harvest Festival

Father God we give you thanks that once again the earth has produced her increase. All over our beautiful world the harvest of grain is drying, ready for feed and bread and the harvest of roots crops and vegetables have been lifted or picked and stored. The harvest of  the grapevine, the almond, the olive, are even now being picked and the harvest of the fruit tree, oranges, lemons, plums, apples, pears ,and figs are being gathered  in as each in its turn ripens in the autumn sun.

Holy God thank you that you give us our daily bread and fruit in its season but beyond this bread we look to the bread of heaven; beyond this fruit we look to the fruits of eternal life and so we pray for your church here in the Costa Blanca and those who minister to us Sunday by Sunday and help to fulfil our spiritual hunger.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God we pray for harvests in parts of your world suffering drought, natural disaster, disease and terrorism.  We pray for the struggling and the oppressed.
Help those without power to negotiate or bargain within fairly traded markets and help all whose work goes unrewarded or whose produce is undervalued to realise their true value and worth and to be paid a fair wage for their labours.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God we pray for all those here in Spain who provide for our daily needs.  For those working on the land, delivering foodstuffs and working in our local markets and shops.  We especially remember those who are struggling with the problems of drought and changing markets and the bureaucracy of the EEC.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for those who are ill and in pain, longing to live full lives, for those who are sad and hurt longing for comfort, for those in hospital awaiting treatment, for those convalescing, seeing an end to their suffering and for those whose only relief will come through death.  May we always offer gentle support to those in trouble sensitive encouragement to those in need, and strength and support to those in weakness.  We especially pray for ……

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful Lord, your love reaches beyond the grave. At the end of our days on earth be with us and with those we love and with those whom we love and have gone before us.   We pray now for those who have recently died and those bereaved by their passing

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God as we leave this church today we ask that you your guiding hand may be upon our lives. Make us always grateful for the harvest and bounty of your creation and all those who provide for our daily needs and continue to inspire us again with your spirit that those who have, may readily share with those who have not.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity Year B – 11 October  2015

Loving God we thank you for your invitation to gather here as we seek a true relationship with you. We bow before you now in humility and with faith, voicing our petitions.

Holy God your servant Paul teaches us that your word is living and active and so we pray that our Church life will also be full of life and activity and that day by day we will grow to know you more clearly and love you more dearly.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Mighty God, so often the lack of justice throughout the world makes us angry and bitter.  Like your prophet Amos we see the poor being trampled and denied the basic freedoms that we so often take for granted.  We pray for all those who are being driven from their homes in Syria and forced to seek refuge in Europe.  We pray that the member nations of the European Union will all do their best to offer a safe refuge to those in need.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God in our journey with you through our lives we find that we have often left friends and family behind for the sake of your son Jesus Christ.  Help us to show them through the way that we live our lives that they too can be a part of that journey and that the rewards you promise are a present reality.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God we remember this morning those who are sick, sad or lonely and those who are brave and patient when things are going wrong. We pray that they may be aware of your comforting presence and know that in your hands they are safe and loved.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, through the ministry of your son Jesus Christ you have freed us from the grip of the tomb. We pray for those who have departed this life and ask You, through your loving kindness, to have mercy on their souls.  We pray too for those bereaved by their passing.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God, we thank you for this time together in prayer and as we look forward to the week to come, we pray for an awareness of your love and support in all we do.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Saint Luke–October 18 – 2015

St. Luke, saintly Physician, you were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write for us an account of the life of Jesus and the beginnings of our church. In faithfully detailing the humanity of Jesus, you also demonstrated his divinity and his genuine compassion for all human beings

We pray the church’s ministry of healing here in the Costa Blanca, for the Healing Services held at The Franciscan Hospice and for the planning and implementation of similar services in the south of the Chaplaincy.  We pray too for those with an active ministry in our local hospitals and care homes especially at Benimeli and Alfaz del Pi.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God at this the end of the Week of Prayer for World Peace we give you thanks for the way that people of many faiths have prayed together with a common aim.  We pray for the Peace of the World, raising before you the countless places and populations who have never enjoyed the peace which we in Europe so often take for granted.  Jesus said “Blessed are the Peacemakers

for they shall be known as the Children of God “ and with this in mind focus world leaders to strive  for peace not only internationally but also within their own countries. May peace begin with us, in our homes, with our families and friends as we strive to follow in Jesus’ footsteps.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God, we thank you for the joy of human love, and for all those among whom we live and work.  We pray particularly for loved ones who worry us with their health, or circumstances, or life direction. We pray for those among our friends and families who do not know you, or whose faith has been shaken.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God just as you inspired St Luke, inspire all modern doctors with skill, professionalism and compassion for their patients. Enable them to cure the ills of both body and spirit that afflict so many in our day.  We pray now for all those whom we know and love and are in need of healing…….

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God many people die from a lack of proper medical facilities each day. Show your mercy to those who suffer so unjustly from these sins against your love, and gather them to the eternal kingdom of peace.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God  as we depart this service after hearing the Gospel and sharing in the Eucharist may we, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, know the fire that burns in every heart touched by the risen Christ in our midst

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Bible Sunday 25th October 2015

Everlasting God we thank you that your written Word continues to inspire us, showing us who you are, how you love us, how we should live and what we can be.

We thank you for all from our churches who contribute to worship by reading out your word. Give them and us discernment as we hear and inwardly digest the wisdom that we receive.

Thank you too for the way in which the Bible brings guidance, hope and health to people everywhere and we pray for the work of The Bible Society and its supporters that they too will be blessed through the varied work they do at home and globally to introduce the Bible to people’s minds and hearts.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God we thank you that Scripture shows us that you care for the entire world and all its People.

We especially pray for all migrants and refugees around the world, that they would be able to unite themselves to the Holy Family who shared in their plight and would meet kindness and generosity in their search for a home. We give you thanks for the positive response from many countries and pray that this welcome be extended by many more.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Faithful God we pray our families and friends and our church community this Bible Sunday,

May we all be renewed in our love of the Scriptures that through the study of your Word we might encounter Christ in them and allow ourselves to be transformed by his words and actions.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God we pray for the sick, the lonely and the hurting in our community and for those who care for them.  Help them to draw strength from the love of our Lord Jesus shown through the words of scripture. As we think of the power of your Word to set captives free, we pray too for those who are chained by situations beyond their control or by sickness of body, mind or spirit.

Departed

Loving God we pray for all who have died; especially those who encouraged us in our faith by their Biblical understanding and teaching. As we pray for them, may they in turn continue to pray for us that we may stay true to our faith and by our example give similar encouragement to others.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God hear these and all our prayers and let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to you, O Lord, our Strength and our Redeemer.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Sunday 1st November 2015 – All Saints’ Day

God of All the Saints we ask that we might be a holy church, a praying church, a giving church, a serving church. May the saints in heaven be an example for us as today as we reassess our pledges and refocus our giving mindful of our Chaplaincy’s Mission here in the Costa Blanca rejoicing in the positive steps being taken to work within the budget set by the Chaplaincy Council

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Peace we thank you for your world and remember that you entrusted it to our care as stewards.  Give us wisdom to manage our money and personal finances well and to practice heartfelt generosity. As we live each day, help us to treat our world fairly whilst accepting its goodness gratefully. Help us to remember that you are the giver of all we have and to put aside pride of ownership

Lord in your mercy- Hear our prayer

God of Compassion, bring healing and peace to the nations in conflict and where there is political instability. Protect those who are poor and hungry and give them hope. Move those with plenty to share with those who have little and help all people to love their neighbour as themselves.

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Justice, keep us from being preoccupied with money and worldly goods and with trying to increase them at the expense of justice. Let us not be so concerned with our own problems that we become lacking in concern for the problems of others. Help us to demonstrate our love for you in our daily lives and in the wider society of the Costa Blanca. Make us quick to forgive and slow to condemn and help us to strive for peace in our families, in our country and in the world.

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Communities, we thank you for those who helped us on our journey of faith and encouraged us to keep going when we felt like giving up; for all those who taught us the faith; for those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives, striving for a better world following the example of your only son, Jesus Christ

We pray for our own community here and for our church, its congregation, wardens and for all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, to make our Church the thriving congregation it is today.

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer

God of Healing, we pray for all who bear the burdens of pain, bereavement, anxiety and depression. We pray for those whose illness stems from financial problems. We pray that they may have an awareness of your presence and an understanding that you are bearing those burdens with them and always working towards their healing and wholeness.

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer.

God of Eternity, we thank you for all the saints – those recognised by the Church and those known only to a few, and to you. We praise you for their example and rejoice that they now live with you heaven enjoying your everlasting peace

Lord in your mercy-Hear our prayer.

Lord as we go out from church today, we give thanks for the love you have shown to the world through all your saints.  May we, week by week continue to celebrate our communion with them whenever and wherever we worship.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen

These Prayers are taken from Churches Together Remembrance Sunday 2005

Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace: for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God;

May God give peace: God give peace

For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss;

May God give peace: God give peace

For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return;

May God give peace: God give peace

For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity;

May God give peace: God give peace

For peace-makers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free;

May God give peace: God give peace

For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace.

May God give peace: God give peace

O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever. Amen.

Intercessions Second Sunday before Advent Year B 15th November 2015

Everlasting God as we approach the end of another Church Year we look back with gratitude and thankfulness for all of the blessings you have sent our way

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God we pray for our Church and its role and place within the Chaplaincy.  Thank you for those who have worked so hard arranging fellowship, outreach and fund-raising events.  Thank you for new members of our congregations and the visitors who have joined us in worship whilst on holiday in the Costa Blanca.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Creator God we pray for people suffering from the effects of conflict, terrorism and persecution in all parts of your world. For those who feel undervalued, ignored, forgotten in their work or life and for those who do not have enough of life’s basic needs, food, clothing, shelter.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Gracious God although we are sometimes separated by language and culture from the people we live amongst, we pray for them and their families and as we pray for our neighbours may they not only be mere words, but day by day, moment by moment, in action, in the things we do and the way we do them.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Loving God we pray for all who suffer in body mind or spirit and for those who care for them. We pray for the sick; for those who mourn; for those without faith, hope or love. We especially pray now for those on our list of intercessions.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God we pray to you for those whom we love, but see no longer. Give to the departed your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them; and in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the holy purpose of your perfect will.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Holy God we pray for ourselves; as we go from your house today to start the week ahead, we ask that in all we do, we may we walk more closely with you at our side safe in the knowledge that your fatherly love and care knows no bounds.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen

Intercessions for Christ the King Year B–22 November 2015

The Church of England has issued the following prayers in response to the Paris terror attack.

They could be incorporated into Sundays’s Prayers at Chruch and/or used during the week

Compassionate God and Father of all, we are horrified at violence in so many parts of the world. It seems that none are safe, and some are terrified.

Hold back the hands that kill and maim;turn around the hearts that hate. Grant instead your strong Spirit of Peace – peace that passes our understanding but changes lives through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God of Hope, we come to you in shock and grief and confusion of heart. Help us to find peace in the knowledge of your loving mercy to all your children, and give us light to guide us out of our darkness into the assurance of your love.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Merciful God, hear the cries of our grief, for you know the anguish of our hearts. It is beyond our understanding and more than we can bear.

We pray that justice may be done and that we may treasure the memory of their lives more than the manner of their death. .

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer
