Javea

JaveaAbout the church:

The Ermita del Popul, between Javea Old Town and the village of Jesus Pobre, was built in the 14th century, but fell into disrepair at the time of the Spanish Civil War. Restoration took place in the early 1970s when expats from the UK began to settle here, and were keen to find a church building in which to hold Anglican services. This became the first Anglican congregation to be established on the Costa Blanca in 1972.

In the restoration extensions, the vestry, side chapel and toilet facilities were added, as well as water and electricity, but the original style was not changed and some of the ancient beams still support the roof.

A walking group, the Strollers, gathers for walks and for fellowship once a month during the cooler weather.
After Sunday services the congregation meets outside the church, and coffee etc is served, while a wall market is held each week.

Throughout the year a number of social events take place such as pot luck lunches, coffee mornings and garden parties, essentially to foster the church community as well as to gather church funds. Bible study groups are held on Monday and Tuesday

The Roman Catholic Church use the Ermita after us during July & August; and notably on the 1st Sunday after 8th September when there is no Church of England service.

Services: Every Sunday at 9.45am. Also Wednesday at 10.30am.

Follow signs to Javea, and at the roundabout-junction of the CV734 and the CV738 (blue and white ceramic arch on roundabout) Take the CV738 to Jesus Pobre. Drive through the village until you come to a T junction with the CV735, signs to Denia and Javea. Turn right towards Javea, and continue for 2.5kms, until you come to a left turning and the estate agency, `Casitas Ibericas´. Turn here, and the Ermita is on your right.
