We are guests of the Roman Catholic Jesuit community at the Sanatorio of Fontilles, which was established in the early years of the last century for the care of those suffering from leprosy. Funded largely by private donations and legacies, they continue to work towards the elimination of poverty-related diseases throughout the world, as well as caring residentially for those with a variety of needs.
We meet in the community’s church, a fine building which is reached by continuing 500m down the drive from the entrance gates, and leading directly to the main door. Parking is available in front of the church for those with walking difficulties; and additional parking space is found by taking the last turning to the left before the church, two minutes’ walk away. There are loos on the way down the drive, and also in church.
The Eucharist is celebrated every Sunday at 9.30am.
Occasionally the main church is used at 11.00am by our hosts when there are larger gatherings or conferences. The slightly earlier start time for our worship will enable access at 11.00, as well as giving time for the clergy and people to chat before the priest has to drive on to Gandia for 12.00.
From Ondara (exit 62 of the AP7) on the CV731 through Benidoleig and Orba.
From Pego and Tormos on the CV715 to Orba; and the CV715 from Alcalalí to Orba.
From the CV715 as it passes close to Orba village, there are signs to Fontilles (5km) on the CV721. After 3.5km, there is a clear junction with the CV7210 – the left fork up the hill. About 1km further on, there is a turning to the left, signed to the Sanatorio, and the gates are just ahead.
